Dad hat vs snapback cap: what is the difference?

With so many cap styles, it’s not surprising that one of the frequently asked questions we get from our customers is about the difference between snapbacks and dad hats. A dad hat is a 5-panel (usually) baseball cap that has a slightly curved brim (pre-curved by the manufacturer), whereas a snapback is a 6-panel baseball cap with a flat brim. Both are meant to be one-size-fits-all that come with an adjustment strap in the back.

3 Main Differences

#1: Brim

A snapback’s brim is flat and wide, while a dad hat has a round, pre-shaped brim.

#2: Front Panel & Angle

A snapback’s front panel is hard, pre-shaped, and almost at a 90° angle, making it ideal for large designs that need to be very visible. On the other hand, dad hats have a softer front panel that’s angled backwards.

#3: Design

Snapbacks have a more of a ‘in your face’ style due to the seemingly larger front panel and a dad hat is more subtle looking with a fitted look & feel.
